The Story
Rising average temperatures increasingly lead to overheating of urban areas during the summer. For the future of cities like Graz, measures and strategies for adapting to climate change play a decisive role.
The Climate Culture Pavilion is an installation in public space that presents a future model for cooling urban spaces in hot summers and makes it directly tangible for visitors.
The approximately 100 m² forest oasis in the middle of the city centre invites visitors to linger and cool down. The heart of the pavilion is the vegetation inside, which cleans and cools the air, resulting in a temperature difference of up to 7 degrees compared to the temperatures in the city centre. At the same time, the pavilion will be a forum for future climate culture and thus a stage for pioneers of this, for a common cultivation of a climate culture and more environmental awareness in the everyday life of each individual.
Success Factor | Hero Moment
The summer months heat up the urban spaces. The Climate Culture Pavilions with their dense woods offer every individual, old and young, the relief of escaping the heat and tangible cooling. The dense vegetation awakens a longing for nature. Each individual experiences his or her own positive forest experience, regardless of the population group. Positive climate change becomes tangible and strengthens the perception of the natural environment and the need for a balanced, climate-positive world.
