The Story
Saving energy benefits both the climate and the wallet. The City of Vienna has therefore created a special training program for young people together with “die umweltberatung”: The energy licence (energie-führerschein) is an additional qualification showing trainees and pupils how small changes can significantly decrease the energy demand at the company, at school or at home.
Youngsters can acquire the needed know-how on a training course which involves practical examples, interactive work in small groups and a computer test on the topics of energy and energy parameters, every-day energy-saving options, environmental impacts of energy consumption as well as climate protection and renewable energy. This is designed to encourage young people to make careful and economic use of energy, preparing them for an affordable life in their own household and improving their job options.
Success Factor | Hero Moment
In the first five years of its existence, over 2,000 energy license exams were passed. The certificate became an integral part of the school-leaving qualification courses at the Viennese folk high schools. And the Vienna city administration also trains its own apprentices across the board.
